Evolutionary Chronicle - Makika

Makika are large, burrowing amphibians commonly found throughout the Mata Nui continent. Thanks to the foul acid secreted from their skin, they have few natural predators. The Makika are also capable of spitting a more concentrated version of said acid at a target, an ability they use for deterring predators as well as hunting. Powerful front legs as well as hidden bony spades on the hind legs allow the Makika to burrow quickly through the ground. They are largely nocturnal, preferring to spend the day in their underground burrows as well as hibernate there during seasons of little rain.
The gray variety of Makika is found mostly in deserts, scrublands and rocky crags, where their muted colors provide them with camouflage. They sometimes exploit the underground tunnels and chambers dug by Nui-Jaga scorpions. One a Makika has settled in such a prized territory, it will defend it ferociously.
